Are you tired of or frustrated with your traditional removable denture? While these classic restorations are certainly better than having no teeth, they’re notorious for losing their fit, becoming uncomfortable, and popping out at embarrassing times. Thankfully, they’re not your only option anymore! At Weldon Dental of Rome, we can give you the comfortable and stable denture you deserve with the help of dental implants. Implant dentures in Rome are simply the best way to replace missing teeth. Keep reading or schedule your consultation today to find out why!
Like traditional dentures, implant dentures feature a full set of custom-made replacement teeth that are set into a gum-colored base. Traditional dentures rely on the suction created by the close fit of this base to keep them in place, but implant dentures get their support from four to eight dental implants. These small titanium posts are inserted into the jawbone to replace the roots of missing teeth and provide a strong, stable foundation for the denture. Depending on your unique needs and preferences, we’ll likely recommend one of the two following options:
Permanent implant dentures are fixed in place, only to be removed by your dentist during routine checkups and cleanings. You’ll wear your fixed implant denture while eating, brushing, sleeping, and throughout all your daily activities.
Alternatively, removable implant dentures are called snap-on dentures since they can snap onto and off of the dental implants. You’ll remove them occasionally for maintenance, but these implant dentures typically require fewer dental implants.
The first step on your journey towards a strong, stable denture is to visit us for a consultation. We’ll discuss your goals for your smile and evaluate your oral health. Some patients may need to complete preliminary procedures like a bone graft or gum disease therapy before we schedule their implant placement surgery. This is where the dental implants are placed directly into the jawbone in a minor surgical procedure. Following the implant placement surgery, you’ll need to wait three to six months as the dental implants fuse with your jawbone. Then, you’ll return to our office to have your beautiful, custom-made denture anchored in place.
Most patients who are interested in getting implant dentures are considered good candidates for them. To make sure implant dentures are a good choice for you, we’ll check for three key factors:
If you are not initially a candidate for implant dentures, we will likely be able to help get you on track for your new smile with preliminary procedures like gum disease therapy or a bone graft.
